Suzy Shead Passes
Dear friends and colleagues,
It is with great sadness I share with you news of the very recent passing of Suzie Shead. She died this past Saturday, December 1 around sunset after a long and largely private struggle with cancer.
Suzie and her husband Wally James were the co-founders and co-producers of KPFT’s veteran program The Progressive Forum, airing from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday nights. This program evolved from their work together on the program Enfoque Latino Americano, where they met after she began volunteering in 1983.
Suzie was a very strong and very private person; she never wanted to burden others with her problems. But she was also a fierce believer in peace and social justice; she would work tirelessly for a just cause and she cared deeply about people and her community radio station, KPFT. And she was a wonderful artist as well.
Her strength and determination may have run its course this past weekend, but we have all been enriched by her presence in our lives.
There will be a special broadcast celebrating her life, her contributions and music she loved during the second hour of The Progressive Forum this Thursday, December 6, 2007 beginning at 8 p.m.
Plans are underway to celebrate her life together around her birthday in early January. We will keep you informed of details as they develop.
Peace,
Duane Bradley
KPFT General Manager
