Remix Public Enemy

Jamglue is hosting a remix contest for one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, the one and only Public Enemy, and its new song “Amerikan Gangster.”

PE, one of my favorites even today, is notable for being ahead of its time on virtually everything — from its booming blend of rap and rock a generation ahead of “Party Like A Rock Star” to its embrace of file-sharing and technology for independent artists. The Creative Commons blog reminds us that Chuck D was verbally jousting with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich on these matters long before many were as openly supporting file-sharing. Aspiring remixers, have at it.
