Hip Hop Politics
Hip Hop Politics is Akil Head’s homage to hip-hop music, tech, culture and politics. Hip-hop tech? Yes, tech. Given how important issues like the digital divide are for many communities, Akil’s willingness to talk technology with a hip-hop community that might not otherwise get that exposure is laudable. Another remarkable thing about the site is the love and dedication to the underground scene that remains true to its principles and politics. Engagements with the mainstream are all about having a higher conversation about meaning and context. Much of what you’ll read concerns itself with the flourishing local scene. It’s exciting to see how diverse and unique that effort is, and they could have no better an advocate than Akil and his site.I regularly talk to listeners who say they’re not into hip-hop. If you’re not, or don’t get the artform, I especially encourage you to pop by. Akil conveys the history, complexity and voices in a way few can. A superlative site any way you look at it.
