Regarding Elections
Dear Programmers,
I regret being out of town the day of your last programmers’ meeting because it is important to me to be in touch with all of you.
My name is Tucker Bradley and I am the Local Election Supervisor for this year.
My job ends after the elections are over. Knowing this may help you to deal with my annoying you for help as time goes by.
If you want to know what I do most of the time, besides being a mother, I produce music and art and do independent activism for peace and human rights.
Back to business.
After these elections, up to one-half of the board may be different.
Two of my main jobs, right now, are
- to attract a balanced and creative candidate base and
- to convince listener members to vote.
We need to search the entire listening area for candidates who want to work at aspiring to Pacifica’s mission of free speech and community cooperation.
Your help between now and September 25, can make the greatest difference in the outcome of the election.
Here is why.
After the nominations close - and this is very important - Pacifica bylaws will prohibit you from any on-air support of any candidate. So, that is why I urge you to help me in reaching out to every community NOW.
I have a few ideas about how to create a buzz among listeners who might like to participate.
1. I would like to produce cool PSA’s in every language possible. If you can help me with this, I would meet you at the station anytime.
2. I can also supply a text for an online pitch in the language of your choice.
3. Anyone interested in a multilangauge dialog for PSA, I am making a Spanish English one this week. Those are the only two languages I know at all, so please let’s get together on this.
4. If there is a community center or a certain group you would like me to extend outreach to, please let me know. The committee has a limited number of days and times to make appearances around town to expand our candidate search.
5. Do you know any music/arts/theater groups who might want to perfrom at our candidate events?
I’ll have the unpaid staff lists posted by Monday. Please initial beside your name when you check it. One more thing - if you are not running in the staff elections and would want to work with me to create a smooth and fair election, you are welcome to join our meetings.
PLEASE contact me about these things or anything else! I need to hear your ideas.
Tucker
