Race & Nationality Producers Collective

You may or may not know that Pacifica has a Race & Nationality Policy, passed by the interim Pacifica National Board way back in 2002. The policy includes several clauses, one of which specifically addresses national programming:

“National programming on external issues. Given the particular urgency of racism and xenophobia in this country today, the national office will facilitate the creation of a racially/nationally diverse collective of producers from various community radio stations to develop ongoing nationally broadcast programs aimed at promoting education and dialogue on: 1) issues of race and nationality and their intersection with class and gender, both nationally and internationally; and 2) empowerment efforts/campaigns by communities fighting these and related forms of oppression. This may include national airing of extraordinary local radio programs.”

In order to carry out this policy, National Program Coordinator Nathan Moore would like to convene a group of producers from around the network by teleconference in the first week of April to discuss this part of the policy and figure out how such a collective might operate and what type of productions could be undertaken.

Are you interested in being part of this collective? Please let National Program Coordinator Nathan Moore
know by email – and also let him know when you might be available for a call during the first week of April.

And feel free to pass along this offer to others in the network.
