Programmer Trainings to start
At long last: KPFT Programmer Training Classes will commence after pledge drive, on Saturdays at 2-3 p.m. at KPFT studios, 419 Lovett. Please RSVP so I know how many to prep for. Some of these classes are about to be closed for attendance, so RSVPing is the one way to guarantee a space.
Basic Vegas Training
What: A one-hour training on the basics of Vegas and the production room
For: Those who have never used Vegas; those who have used it only a few times; those who have used Vegas but want to see what they are missing
When: Saturday, May 28
What will be covered:
· Intro: What is Vegas, what is everything in production room
· What the basic buttons and commands are
· How to: record in Vegas via microphone, telephone, CD and minidisc; how to do basic editing
· Introduction to tracks and levels
Intermediate/Advanced Vegas Training
What: A one-hour training on intermediate/advanced Vegas tricks [you are encouraged to bring particular issues you are working on]
For: Those familiar with Vegas; those who run into particular Vegas problems
When: Saturday, June 4
What will be covered:
· Introduction to: multitracking, envelopes, crossfades
· Intermediate and advanced editing tricks
· Using Vegas with other sound editors
· Troubleshooting individual projects
Improving Mic Delivery/Show Production
What: A one-hour primer on improving your mic delivery and overall show production.
For: Programmers who want to make production improvements their shows
When: Saturday, June 11
What will be covered:
· Improving mic work and interview skills
· Common mic mistakes
· Clocking program flow
· Handling live technical difficulties/continuity
· Tweaking your show for wider distribution
· Sharing your show with affiliates via audioport
Quarterly Training on Obscenity/Indecency and Nonprofit Law
What: A one-hour training on obscenity and indecency, as well as nonprofit law related to KPFT (what we can and can’t say on the air)
For: All programmers
NOTE: All programmers will be required to sign in and attend at least one legal training every year.
When: Saturday, June 18; others to be scheduled once in the fall and once in the winter
What will be covered:
· Defining obscenity and indecency
· What nonprofit laws pertain to KPFT
· What we can and can’t say
· The latest case law affecting radio
How to do Remotes
What: A one-hour training on how to set up and conduct a live remote.
For: Programmers interested in setting up a remote.
When: Saturday, June 25
What will be covered:
· Equipment needed for a remote
· Setup
· Getting online
· Troubleshooting
