VACANCY OPENINGS FOR RADIO CORRESPONDENTS

Panos Radio South Asia (PRSA) (www.panosradiosout

hasia.org) is an undertaking of Panos South Asia (www.panossouthasia.org) based in Kathmandu. In keeping with Panos South Asia’s mission to encourage and stimulate informed public debate on key developmental issues in South Asia and to ensure the effective flow of information from media in the south to the north and vice versa, Panos Radio South Asia produces features to be distributed through Interworld Radio (IWR) (www.interworldradio.org) and 15 minutes radio magazine entitled ‘Panoscope’. The radio programmes produced aim to capture the voices of poor and marginalized people in South Asia on general development issues including Panos South Asia’s five thematic areas - media pluralism, public health, conflict, environment and globalisation.

Panos Radio South Asia is currently looking for full-time radio correspondents each to be based in Panos South Asia’s country offices in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Job title: Radio Correspondents, Panos Radio South Asia

Duty Stations : Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan with travel in the countries as-and-when necessary.

Duration: Annual contract with possibilities of extension.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Correspondents will work directly with the Editor, Panos Radio South Asia and Country Representatives and Regional Programme Managers of Panos South Asia in the region. The incumbent shall report to the Radio Editor.

For the effective and satisfactory discharge of the terms of reference, the incumbent will:

· Assist in development and implementation of a strategy to support PRSA radio programme productions and distributions to radio stations in South Asia for periodic broadcasting.

· Report on subject assigned by the Radio Editor on various development issues in South Asia.

· In consultation with the Radio Editor draft story plans, scripts to produce IWR features and PRSA Panoscope.

· Collect sounds, interviews and other required sound bytes and materials to produce IWR and PRSA radio programmes.

· Assist in final editing the radio programmes and preparing support materials for uploading the radio programmes on the Panos Radio South Asia website, such as lead texts, photographs, and scripts.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree, preferably Master’s Degree in development related subjects, development communications, mass communications or journalism.

· Familiarity with independent radios and production units in respective country of work.

· Could take initiative and work with minimum supervision and personal integrity

· Computer experience working on LAN environment, MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, E-mail, FTP

· Experience in digital audio recording (using Mini Disc Recorders) and editing (preferably Cool Edit, Adobe Audition).

Experience

· 3-5 years of reporting experience, preferably for radio.

Language

· Fluency in both spoken and written English as well as regional languages required in the respective work stations.

Salary and Tenure

· Salary negotiable as per PSA’s salary policy. Depending on qualification, experience and skill. One year contract, extendable.
