Madagascar, Anyone?
A volunteer is needed to come to Madagascar this August to help build a low-power FM radio station. The station will be based in the rural community of Antsaravibe, in Northern Madagascar. It will be run by AINGA, a local community organisation which works to:
- improve the quality of life in the community,
- provide education on human rights,
- encourage environmental protection,
- improve community health,
- promote civic education,
- and fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Their radio station will be an important tool to help with the work they are doing.
You will be helping with the construction of the station, which includes bringing the equipment down, building an antenna mast, building a studio, and installing the audio and transmission equipment. You will also be doing workshops on radio production and broadcasting.
The project will begin in the first or second week of August, in Antananirivo. We will head from there to Antsaravibe, and will be there for around 14 days.
You will have to purchase your own flight, lodging and meals while there. There is a small but comfortable lodge that provides food and board for $15 dollars per day.
If you are interested in joining the project and will be available around that time, please email, describing yourself and any relevant experience. Experience of community radio, LPFM transmission systems, and audio production/broadcasting, would be useful. A good knowledge of French is also important.
