Jim Hightower in Houston

KPFT is proud to present Jim Hightowers book release of Swim Against the Current: Even A Dead Fish Can Go With The Flow. The event is a benefit for KPFT 90.1 FM and takes place at 7 PM, Wednesday, March 19 in Landmark River Oaks Theatre and Lounge, 2009 West Grey. A private Meet and Greet Reception with Jim will take place from 6-7 pm in the River Oaks Theatre lounge prior to the presentation. Tickets for both events can be purchased on-line at kpft.org.

Jim Hightower is a New York Times Best Selling Author and a razor sharp populist commentator. Swim Against the Current highlights the stories of 50 organizations and individuals who are creating the grassroots changes that are currently being called for in the Democratic primary race. Jim is the former editor of the Texas Observer and was elected twice as the Texas Agriculture Commissioner. He has written seven books, delivers over 100 speeches a year and publishes the newsletter, The Hightower Lowdown. The Lowdown now has more than 135,000 subscribers and is the fastest growing political publication in America.

KPFT 90.1 FM features Hightower Radio weekdays at 7:58 AM and 5:28 PM. Jim also broadcasts Hightower Radio on more than 150 other radio stations, on the web, on Armed Forces Radio, and on Radio for Peace International. The segment is Jims insightful and humorous essays that expose and dissect pressing political issues of our times. He also does a weekly video blog on the internet.

KPFT, a member of the national Pacifica Radio Network, is Houstons only non-commercial, listener sponsored, free speech radio station. The station airs 75 diverse programs of alternative and progressive issues, public affairs, news and award winning music.
