Info Ethics Conference
UNESCO announces the First Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on the Ethical Dimensions of the Information Society. It will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam on 16-18 January 2008. These are the objectives and expected results:
Objectives
Identify and discuss the issues considered priorities for Asia-Pacific region in the field of information and communication.
Raise stakeholders’ awareness of the ethical, legal and socio-economic dimensions of information and communication technologies
Contribute to the UNESCO draft Code of ethic (elaborated and discussed during the three previous regional Conferences).
Further promote UNESCO’s mission and commitment to ensuring peace, sustainable development, at the same time, to consolidate the leading role of UNESCO in the contemporary time.
Create a regional network of experts in this field and promote regional and inter-regional cooperation on information ethics.
Expected Results
- A Statement by participants on info-ethic.
- Recommendations and intellectual contributions of the Conference will be the expected inputs and orientation for a full development of UNESCO’s draft Code of ethic initiative.
- Deeper understanding of UNESCO’s role in the information society and absorbing shared professional experience, participants from Asia and the Pacific would be more capable in dealing with challenges while conducting their works in their respective countries.
