FSRN Seeks Assistant Producer
Free Speech Radio News (FSRN) is seeking a part-time Assistant Producer for the daily 29-minute newscast carried by Pacifica and community radio stations nationwide. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to assistant produce a daily, cutting edge independent news program.
An important part of this position involves identifying stories of interest and recommending to reporters the best angles to pursue.
Applicant must demonstrate abilities in the writing and editing of scripts and in giving written feedback and suggestions during a written test in addition to an interview.
We are seeking someone who has people skills and works well as part of a team.
Applicants must have the following set of skills:
- Strong writing and editing abilities.
- Well-developed organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Good news judgment and a solid knowledge of domestic and world affairs. We are a “Hard News” cast.
- Ability to edit scripts from reporters who speak English as a second language.
- Familiarity with digital editing programs and recording equipment with an ability to troubleshoot audio problems over email, chat or by phone.
- Ability to work in a collective structure and assist in organizational success.
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow through on tasks and complete work on schedule with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with the wiki format and basic database maintainance
FSRN is a U.S. based broadcast, but the Assistant Producer position is not limited to a geographical location.
Fluency in more than one language is highly desirable.
The Assistant Producer position is part-time and requires overnight preparation for the next day’s newscast.

This is a part-time (20 hours a week) job which pays $19.50 per hour.
