Greetings Producers,

In celebration of Black History Month 2008, we are issuing an open invitation for participation in special programming for the PACIFICA Network.

Calling All Producers!! You now have the opportunity to become a positive part of History by participating in “Black HISstory, HERstory, OURstory on Pacifica”.

Here is the mission statement for the project.

“The overall Mission of the project is to tell “HISstory, HERstory, OURstory” by engaging listeners in an ongoing conversation of African people as active participants in world history and not just bystanders. Thought-provoking interviews and programs with experts in African “histiography” will highlight such topics as spirituality, African approaches to education, our contributions to science and ethics, African struggles and the social evolution of mankind through art, music and dance. The Pacifica Black Heritage series will be used as a catalyst for critical self-reflection and as a medium for inspiring us to build on the legacy of our ancestors.” - By Gladys L. Brooks, WPFW

National Programming will consist of twenty (2 minute) Moments in Black History, and five (5-7 minute) feature/cutaways, which will be made available for our five sister stations and 144 affiliate stations.

Pacifica will be compensating producers $30 for the 2 min. segments, and $50 for 5-7 min. segments.

Producers are welcomed to frame segments around any moment in history since the onset of mankind.. Time frames to consider:

4 Million BCE - 4100 BCE [time of the first calendar]

1968 – present

Categories to Consider:

Education

Politics

Cultural/Artistic Expression
Spirituality/Philosophy
Science/Technology

Important People of the Times

The segments should help the listener answer these questions.

Who am I? Where did I come from? What is my purpose? What must I do to fulfill that purpose? The listner should have a better sense of who they are individually and as a people. They should know from whence they came (geographically, spiritually, politically, etc.). They should have a new sense of purpose and connectedness to their people. And finally we should provide them with strategies, organizations, books and other resources that can help them fulfill their purpose and inspire them to expand the accomplishments our ancestors laid the groundwork for.

  Please take the time to “Register” and review the sight for questions and comments ASAP, time is of essence.

• Deadline for Pitches: January 10, 2008 by Noon for Producers.interested in participating.

• Pitches may be as short as one paragraph, but no more than one page in legnth. We do suggest you begin work during the selection process, because of the quick turn-around. You will be informed within 24 hours if your pitch has been accepted. Because of the limited number of segments the network would fund, we will include any well produced segments contributed by volunteers.

• Content Deadlines: January 14, 2008. All Information that is aired should be in compliance with FCC Regulations and PACIFICA National Broadcasting Rules.

• A conference call will be held for all producers on Friday, January 11^th @ ?????
